2010-02-14 Under 9 Istead Colts Red 1 vs. 6 Northfleet Eagles Red

With other results going our way today a win would see us back at the top of the league and the boys knew it!

We came out fast and went about getting our passing game going well on a small pitch that doesn't usually favour us, today though the lack of space didn't bother us at all. First to get on the score sheet was Sam when he turned in a lovely volleyed finish from a corner. Next to make his mark on the game was Kian with a driven shot from the edge of the area.

At two nil it looked like being another comfortable day for a team that has become used to winning when Zac scored a cracking header. Unfortunately this was past his own keeper but never mind, sometimes it happens, otherwise a faultless performance from both Zac and Alfie. This could have thrown the boys into disarray but instead it seemed to spur them on and the tackles kept going in and the passes kept flowing.

One hairy moment saw Istead celebrating when the ball was struck from just inside half way and was dipping wickedly under the cross bar. The celebration was cut short however when Ryan J. pulled off a fine save and then recovered the ball to show that you shouldn't celebrate until the ball is in the net and the ref's blown the whistle.

With further goals from Sam and Kian and an absolute cracker from Tyreece the game was all but over before Sam curled in a great cross which hit the post. The rebound caused chaos in front of goal and was put into his own net by an unlucky Istead defender.

A great display in midfield from Sam today saw him take both of the man of the match trophies home and they were well deserved too.
