2010-02-21 Under 9 Dartford Town 0 vs. 6 Northfleet Eagles Red
NKYFL Round Robin Cup Match
Playing an unknown opposition on a rainy day with a pitch that was almost unplayable, due to the mud and the lumps and bumps, it took us a while to get into our game today. Dartford threw everything at us early on but our defence stood as firm as ever.
12 minutes into the game Tye got our first goal which seemed to settle the nerves so we could start to control things a bit and get some more passing going (not easy when the ball got stuck in that mud so readily).
The second half was when we really got going. Dartford seemed to play without much care for defending and when they attacked their whole team would surge forward catching us a little short on occasion but Alfie and Zac barely missed a tackle all day, and that was the reason Zac won the Parents Man of the Match award, well done fella. Dartford's over keenness to attack with such numbers left it easy for us to exploit them on the break and it wasn't long before we took a commanding lead through two more goals from Tye, one from TJ and another from Ryan H. All from simple passing moves that left our attackers free to get into the right spaces and create the chances.
We would have scored a lot more had it not been for some good keeping from the Dartford stopper. A fine save from a one on one with Ashley made us think it wasn't going to be his day to score but he didn't give up and when he was moved up to striker he kept following others shots well and he got his reward with a proper poachers goal when he was quickest to react at the near post to hammer home our sixth and final goal of a very wet afternoon.
It was this never give up attitude today that won Ashley the Managers Man of the Match honours, well done Ashley and well done everyone. To play that well under such rotten conditions shows just how good you boys really are!
